As we shift from Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month to National Autism Acceptance Month in April, The National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD) remains committed to promoting acceptance of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including those with autism. Throughout April, we join individuals, families, and communities in celebrating the value, contribution, and strengths of those with autism, stressing the importance of acceptance and inclusion.
During National Autism Acceptance Month, it’s crucial to acknowledge the diverse experiences and needs of individuals with autism, their families, and their communities. NACDD reaffirms our commitment to advocating for policies that improve access to education, healthcare, employment, and services for those with autism.
National Autism Acceptance Month is a yearly reminder to continue our efforts in building a more accepting and supportive world for individuals with autism and all developmental disabilities. Through collaboration, education, and advocacy, we can dismantle ableist barriers, challenge stereotypes, and ensure that our societies hold value for all individuals and empower them to succeed. NACDD believes that every individual has the right to live and work in their communities and supports the awareness and acceptance of individuals with autism in our everyday society.
