The National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD) acknowledges the multifaceted challenge surrounding the recruitment, retention, and activation of direct support professionals (DSPs) and Direct Care Workers (DCWs) across the expanse of the United States and its territories. Over the years, the inadequacy of a robust DSP/DCW workforce has been a persistent concern; however, the recent exacerbation of shortages has reached a critical juncture, rendering the situation unsustainable. This crisis reverberates profoundly throughout the daily experiences of individuals with disabilities, their families, advocates, and broader communities.
In light of these pressing circumstances, NACDD recognizes the imperative to delve into the objectives and legislative endeavors of the DD Council network. By delving into the findings of our comprehensive survey conducted during the summer of 2023, we aim to glean valuable insights into the intricacies of this issue, charting a course toward effective solutions and sustainable strategies.
